Public notice is hereby given to the electors of tbe SOUTH WARD,of the City ot Victoria, that I require the' presence ot the said electors at tbe Market Building, In the aforesaid city, on 'Wednesday, the '_'2nd day of March, 1809, from 12 (noon) to 2 p.m., for the purpose of electing a person to represent them in tho Muulclpal Council as an Alderman.

The mode ot nomination ot candidates shall be as follows:

Tho candldntea shall be nominated In writing, tho writing shall bo subscribed by two voters ot tlie Munlclpnilty as proposer and seconder, and shall be delivered to tho lletiirnlng Ofllcer at any time between the date ot the notice nnd 'I p.m. ot the day ot nomination, and In the event of a poll being necessary such poll shall be opened on Saturday, the 25th day of March, 1899, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., In the manner fol-lo'vvlug:

For the office of Alderman for the SOOTH WARD, at room 6 of the Public Market Building, Cormorant street, of which every person Is hereby required to take notice and to govern hifflseif accordingly.

The persons qualified to be uominatod for and elected as Alderman for the City o Victoria shall be such persons as are male Itrltish subjects of tlio full age of twenty-years, and are not dlsiiualllled under any law, and have been for the six months next preceding the day of nomination the gistored owner In the Land Uegistry Ofllce of land or real proiierly in the City of Victoria of the assesspil value on the last Municipal Assessment Holl ot Five Hundred Dollars, or more, over and above any registered incumbrance or charge, and wUd are otherwise duly guallQcd as Municipal voters.

WHEREAS It Is cipedlent that,.permanent sidewalks should be laid in the business portions ot the City. 5'. jV.' ' "

Therefore, the. Munidpel Oouhdl^of tbe Corporation of the City of Vlctorlar;enacts as follows: '. t!^-..'

1. The Council may, by riesolution, determine from time to time toi. construct and lay permanent sidewalks of-foncrete, brick or such other material' as moy: be approved by the Council, with granite or concrete curbs, upon any streets or street, or portion of a street within the limits hereinafter mentioned, and not already having any pcrmanont sidewalk, and may specify wliat sidewalks It is desirable to have so constructed, and whether such work or any portion of it shall be done by day labor or by coiitract, and it there slinli bo a concrete curb in front of the street or portion ot a street where such sidewalk Is Intended to be constructed, tho Council may direct that such curb may form part ot such sidewalk In place of a granite curb.
